CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ohio, March 29, 2016—Lake Health has signed an agreement to provide surgical services for EmployerDirect, a national leader in value-based health care for large employers with self-funded medical plans. As a member of EmployerDirect’s SurgeryPlus network, Lake Health will provide elective general surgery and gynecology, orthopedic and spine surgery for participating employers located within a 150-mile radius.

Under the agreement, Lake Health will receive direct referrals from EmployerDirect enabling the health system to grow its geographical base of patients.

“In today’s healthcare marketplace, consumers are willing to travel to get the best care at the best price with no out-of-pocket cost. As an EmployerDirect surgical provider, we’re able to capture patients who otherwise would not seek care in our market,” explained Glenn Sigel, Director of Managed Care at Lake Health.

SurgeryPlus was created to give employers access to the country’s top hospitals and doctors—at a predictable cost. The supplemental healthcare benefit offers bundled, pre-negotiated rates for planned surgical procedures, resulting in a cost savings. Employers incent employees to journey outside of their markets by offering full coverage for procedures, eliminating deductibles and out-of-pocket costs, and even covering the travel costs of a companion or family member. SurgeryPlus coordinates every aspect of patient care, from scheduling appointments to managing travel logistics.

“All hospitals selected as a SurgeryPlus provider must meet strict benchmarks for quality and patient outcomes,” said Ryan Burke, Regional Director of Provider Networks for EmployerDirect. “Lake Health was selected because it’s ranked among the nation’s top health systems for outstanding surgical outcomes and high patient satisfaction. Additionally, Lake Health’s facilities offer the latest technology and are easily accessible.”

Since early February, Lake Health surgeons have treated patients who reside in cities such as Columbus, Toledo, Pittsburgh and Buffalo, just to name a few.

“Being selected as an EmployerDirect surgical provider is further confirmation of Lake Health’s commitment to high-quality patient-and family-centered care,” said Cynthia Moore-Hardy, FACHE, President and CEO of Lake Health. “The partnership will drive new market share to our programs and improve our payer mix, which ultimately will have a positive financial impact.”
