Employer Direct Healthcare (EDHC) was founded on the belief that we could revolutionize healthcare in the same way that Costco redefined retailing: by giving consumers a better choice with quality, value and savings on a national scale. And when you consider that one of EDHC's founders, Ken Erickson, began his career helping to grow the vision of Costco's founders, then the origins of EDHC are clear. That experience led to the concept of a new market for healthcare services by applying the same business principles -- only this time, to medical procedures.

That original concept has remained with us through several years of diligence, trial and error, many successes and -- we'll admit it -- even a few missteps. But add it all up, and Employer Direct Healthcare has emerged as the leader in value-based healthcare. The key to our approach is we provide incredible value to the three primary participants in this model: the self-funded employer, their employees and covered plan members, and to the healthcare providers themselves.

By connecting these participants directly and providing a better choice, we completely avoid the expensive layers of administration and bureaucracy of the traditional insurance model. That model is mired in inefficiency, and in fact, profits from it greatly, so there is no real motivation to improve upon it. This fact is living proof that sometimes the biggest and best changes must start from outside the establishment, which is exactly what we've done at EDHC.
